Students Behavior of Searching for Information at Muhammadiyah University of Sumatera Utara
Abstract
The objective of the research was to find out the behavior of searching for information in the students of Muhammdiyah Univertsity of Sumatera Utara, uring David Ellis model, Progress and Problems in Information Retrieval The research used descriptive quantitative method. The data were processed by presenting description the questionnaires. The population was 37,135 students of Muhammdiyah University of Sumatera Utara, and 97 of them were used as the samples, taken by using accidental sampling technique when they accidentally et the writer at the university. The result of the research showed that the respondents behavior in searching for information was good. The highest percentage of Starting (determining topic seeking) wax 61.8% for the uem of absolutely agree, the lowest percentage of Monitoring (monitoring the newest information) in the item of disagree was 29.8%, with the details as follows: Chaining (determining the source of information; was 46.3%, Browsing (using non-printed internet) was 53.6% Differentiating (selecting the source of information) was 46.3%, Extracting (selecting relevant information) was 51.5% Verifying (checking information) was 41.2%, and Ending (ending the searching) wat 49.47%
