    Abstract
This writing is entitled Guru Sauti: Biography of an Artist from Serdang (1903-1963). This research is a historical study of the biography of a figure's life written by someone else. This biographical article was written using historical research methods starting from heuristics, collecting sources from interviews with figures who had met him and who knew him closely like his biological children, then at the source criticism stage to test the credibility of the sources, then interpretation and the last is historiography or writing. Many figures have worked and made a big contribution to the development of this nation, but their services seem to be often forgotten so many people don't know about them. Therefore, this research was carried out as a way of giving appreciation and remembering figures who have contributed to this nation, especially in the field of art, such as Guru Sauti. Guru Sauti is an artist from the land of Serdang Bedagai, North Sumatra who succeeded in creating a masterpiece known as the "Serampang Dua Belas" dance. Through this work he and his native region, namely Serdang, were recognized not only on the national stage, but also internationally. Guru Sauti was born in 1903 and died in 1963, throughout his life he dedicated himself to the development of authentic Serdang Malay arts in various government and political conditions at that time. The struggles that Guru Sauti went through throughout his life took place in various dynamics that occurred. He worked as an art teacher at school and as a dance course teacher, which made him liked by many people, and made the word teacher attached to his name. Even though he has died, his work remains immortal throughout the ages until now.
