    Abstract
This research focuses on the textual and musical analysis of Chanting in the Pratene Worship at the Shri Mariamman Association Temple in Medan City. Pratene is a prayer which means conveying a very strong wish to God by expressing feelings and thoughts to fulfill any wish. The presentation songs in the pratene service contain different poems and melodies dedicated to the worship of God. The singing performance at the pratene service is sung without the accompaniment of musical instruments, because this shows a sincere, earnest worship, and is a form of conveying the prayers and gratitude of Hindus to Sang Yhang Whidi. There are two important things studied in this research, namely the meaning of textual singing in pratene worship and its musical structure. To analyze textual meaning, Alan P. Merriam's theory of text is used. Meanwhile, to analyze the music contained in pratene worship, the weighted scale theory proposed by William P Malm is used. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques, namely literature study (reading books, theses, papers and journals related to the author's title), field study (direct visit to the Shri Mariamman Association Temple), interviews with informants, and recording Documentation of activities via photos/video/audio. The results of the research show that in analyzing the songs in pratene worship there are different basic tones. The chants used tend to be monophonic, with interval melodies used in stepped singing. The melody formulations used vary, including iterative, progressive and reverting. The cadences used in singing in pratene worship are perfect and imperfect cadences.
