| dc.description.abstract | Sugarcane is the main ingredient for making sugar, which is a primary need whose demand always increases every year. Efforts to increase sugarcane productivity are also often hampered by pest attacks which can reduce production yields. This research aims to determine the diversity of sugar cane insects on 3 and 5 month old sugar cane plants. This research was carried out at the PTPN II sugar plantation, Bulu Cina Village, Hamparan Perak District, Deli Serdang Regency and identification was carried out at the Plant Pest and Disease Laboratory, University of North Sumatra from July-September 2023. This research used the Purposive Sampling method using 4 methods of capturing (hand picking, sweep net, pit fall trap and Yellow Sticky Trap). The results of research on 3-month-old sugar cane fields showed 1,031 individuals of insects and 1,131 individuals on 5-month-old sugar cane fields, consisting of 8 orders, namely Coleoptera, Hymenoptera, Lepidoptera, Hemiptera, Orthoptera, Diptera, Odonata, and Blattodea. The eight orders found consisted of 26 families and 39 genera. The insect diversity index in sugar cane fields aged 3 months is H'= 3.19, the Evenness Index E= 0.87, the Dominance Index C = 0.055 and the insect diversity index in sugar cane fields aged 5 months is high, namely H'= 3.15, Index Evenness E= 0.86, Dominance Index C = 0.059. The indicated functional status on land includes herbivores, parasitoids, predators, detritivores and pollinators. | en_US |
