    Abstract
Background: Eyelid laceration is one of the ocular traumas that can occur due to blunt or sharp trauma. Purple sweet potato leaves or Ipomoea batatas (IB) are believed to help wound healing process and have been proven to contain antioxidants, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effect. In the acute phase wound healing process, several cytokines that play a role, including the expression of Interleukin-1 (IL-1), Tumor Necrosis Factor Alpha (TNF-α) and IL-1β. Objective: To determine the difference in serum IL-1 levels in white rats (Rattus novergicus strain Wistar) with partial thickness eyelid laceration models with and without IB extract ointment therapy. Method: This research is an animal experimental with randomized post-test only control group laboratory experimental design. Samples were taken by random sampling of 30 mice and divided into 6 groups. The One Way ANOVA test is used if the data is normally distributed and the Kruskal Wallis test if it is not normally distributed Results: There were varying IL-1 serum levels of 39.04 ± 2.03 ng/ml, 43.28 ± 9.45 ng/ml, 47.22 ± 5.53ng/ml in sample group that did not receive treatment, given placebo, standard samples and given gentamicin ointment. Furthermore, the groups given IB extract concentrations of 0.5%, 1% and 1.5%; each had serum IL-1 values of 42.48 ± 12.73 ng/ml, 48.44 ± 6.68ng/ml and 46.34 ± 15.28 ng/ml Conclusion: There was no difference in mean serum levels of IL-1 in white mice with partial thickness eyelid laceration models with IB extract ointment therapy at concentrations of 0.5%, 1% and 1.5%.
