    Abstract
Background : Chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) is one of the most common ear diseases in developing countries. There are two known types of CSOM, namely Benign type CSOM (mucosal disease) and malignant type (ephitelial disease). One of the active forms of vitamin D, calcitriol 1,25(OH)2D3, functions to increase the production of β2 defensins and the antimicrobial peptide cathelicidin (CAMP) by macrophages and monocyte keratinocytes to increase antimicrobial activity. Theoretically, vitamin D deficiency may lead to an increased risk of AOM (acute otitis media) recurrence, and vitamin D supplementation may be associated with limiting the number of new episodes in children prone to OM (otitis media). Objective : To determine the association of serum 25(OH)D levels in the blood to the type of Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media Methods : This is an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design. This study was conducted at the Clinical Pathology Laboratory of Haji Adam Malik General Hospital with samples from Haji Adam Malik General Hospital and Murni Teguh Hospital. The data used in this study were primary data in the form of examination results of serum 25(OH)D levels and secondary data sourced from medical records in the form of demographic and clinical data of patients. Results : In this study, the majority of subjects were found to be male with a total of 16 people (57.1%) with a mean age of 28.5 ± 16.13 years. Majority of subjects suffered from benign type CSOM with a total of 18 people (64.3%). For serum 25 (OH) D levels of the subjects of this study, the mean was 18.68 ± 6.39 ng/mL with the majority of patients had a deficiency of serum 25 (OH) D level with a total of 16 people (57.1%). In this study, there was no significant association and difference between serum 25 (OH) D levels and type of CSOM (p> 0.05). Conclusion : There was no significant association between serum 25(OH)D levels and type of CSOM.
