    Abstract
Background: Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) is an enzyme involved in the conversion of lactate to pyruvate in the cells of most body tissues and increases after tissue damage. As a result, elevated serum LDH appears in various clinical conditions, such as hemolysis, cancer, severe infections and sepsis, liver disease, hematological malignancies, and many others. Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of LDH levels on the severity of COVID-19 at Haji Adam Malik General Hospital Medan. Methods: This study is an observational analytical study with a cross-sectional study design to assess the relationship between LDH levels and the severity of COVID-19 patients at Haji Adam Malik General Hospital Medan. Results: Based on the medical records, males suffer the most from COVID-19 than females. The average age for patients with moderate COVID-19 is 44 years, severe is 55 years and critical is 55 years. The average LDH value in patients with moderate COVID-19 was 349, severe was 472, and critical was 604. Most comorbid diabetes mellitus and hypertension were found in patients with COVID-19, both severe and critical. Conclusion: There is a strong relationship between LDH levels and the degree of Covid-19 and there is a significant difference between LDH values to determine the degree of Covid-19 at H Adam Malik Hospital Medan.
