    Abstract
Background: Sepsis and sepsis shock are major health problems, resulting in one-sixth to one-third of deaths in patients diagnosed with sepsis. In sepsis shock, lactic acid levels increase and cardiac output decreases. Norepinephrine and phenylephrine are vasopressors that can correct the increase in lactic acid levels due to impaired tissue perfusion and change cardiac output. Method: This study is a clinical trial research with double-blind randomized method. This study aims to determine the comparison of lactic acid levels and cardiac output before (T0) and after (6 hours) administration of phenylephrine compared to norepinephrine in sepsis shock patients at H. Adam Malik General Hospital Medan. Result: This study was attended by 32 samples who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The mean lactic acid level in sepsis shock patients before being given vasopressor therapy was 12.33 (± 4.02) mmol/L in the phenylephrine group and 12.11 (± 4.21) mmol/L in the norepinephrine group. The mean value of cardiac output in sepsis shock patients before being given vasopressor therapy was 2.86 (± 0.67) L per minute in the phenylephrine group and 2.65 (± 0.52) L per minute in the norepinephrine group. Conclusion: Lactic acid levels were not statistically significantly different, but cardiac output values were significantly different in the use of phenylephrine compared to norepinephrine in sepsis shock patients.
