Background: Breadfruit (Artocarpus altilis) is a plant belonging to the Moraceae family. Breadfruit leaves contain many antioxidants, such as flavonoids, xanthones, triterpenoids, and stilbene. Of the several antioxidants above, the antioxidants that have been most researched are flavonoids, which have anti-inflammatory properties. Testing of antioxidant activity can be carried out in vitro using the DPPH method. DPPH (1,1 diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) is a stable radical compound. DPPH is used to see antioxidant activity through its ability to capture free radicals.
Objective: This study aims to determine the antioxidant activity of ethanol extract from breadfruit leaves (Artocarpus altilis) using the DPPH method.
Method: Testing of the antioxidant activity of the ethanol extract of breadfruit leaves was carried out using the DPPH method.
Results: The ethanol extract of breadfruit leaves had an IC50 antioxidant activity of 10.58633 μg/ml with a regression equation Y = 3.9413x+ 8.2761 and a correlation coefficient of 0.9724.
Conclusion: the IC50 antioxidant activity obtained from the ethanol extract of breadfruit leaves was 10.58633 μg/ml, which was considered very strong.
