dc.description.abstract | The prelimenary design of diethanolamide plant from palm methyl ester and
diethanolamine by amidation process with production capacity of 3,000 tons/year
and operates for 330 days a year. The main process in this plant design consists of
two stages, namely the formation stage of diethanolamide and the purification
stage. In the formation stage of diethanolamide, a continuous stirred tank reactor
operating at 120°C pressure 0,5 atm for 5 hours is used which requires palm
methyl ester of 3,030.303 kg/hour and diethanolamine of 1,329.167 kg/hour with
sodium methoxide catalyst of 85.984 kg/hour. In the amidation process, a reaction
conversion of 99.06% was obtained. Then in the purification stage, several stages
occur, namely the acetylation stage, the evaporation stage, and the filtaration
stage. The resulting diethanolamide has a purity of 92.66%. The plant is located in
Kawasan Industri Medan 2, Medan Belawan, Sumatera Utara with an area of
13.103,2 m2. The plant's water needs are supplied from the Seruai River. The
plant's electricity needs are fulfilled by using a generator with capacity of 300 kW.
The planned form of business entity is a Limited Liability Company (LLC). The
planned organizational form is a line and staff with the required total workers of
158 people. The results of the economic aspect analysis obtained are as follows:
