dc.description.abstract | Glycerol is trihydroxy alcohol, which is an organic compound in the form of a thick and clear liquid that has a sweet taste. Glycerol is an important part of triglycerides, namely fats and oils. Glycerol is obtained through a hydrolysis process between palm oil and water in a hydrolysis column. Glycerol is widely used in various industries, such as medicine, foodstuffs, cosmetics, toothpaste, chemical
industry, anti-freeze solutions, and printer ink.
The process of making glycerol from palm oil is divided into the raw material preparation stage, the fat splitting stage, and the glycerol purification stage. The main raw materials for making glycerol are palm oil and process water. The raw material preparation stage includes heating palm oil and process water. The second stage is the fat splitting stage at a temperature of 255 oC and a pressure of 53.3 atm with steam injection of 275 oC and a pressure of 53.3 atm which is a hydrolysis reaction of triglycerides in palm oil with water. The third stage is the glycerol purification stage. This stage consists of several processes, namely reducing the water content using a flash tank and separating using a decanter based on density differences. This process aims to separate fatty acids from glycerol which has a concentration of 77% which then goes into the evaporation process. At this stage a purity of 88% was obtained. After that, the glycerol goes into the cooler to cool the glycerol product. Next, it is stored in a glycerol storage tank.
Preliminary of Glycerol Manufacturing Plant From Palm Oil With Continuous Fat Splitting Process capacity of 7,000 tons/year or 883.8383 kg/hour and operate for 330 days a year. The location for the factory is planned to be in Rantau Kopar District, Rokan Hilir Regency, Riau, with a required land area of 10,230 m2. The workforce required to operate the glycerol factory is 140 people.

The planned business entity form is a Limited Liability Company (PT) and the organizational form is a line and staff system organization.
The results of the economic analysis of the glycerol manufacturing factory obtained are as follows:
1. Total Capital Investment (CI) : Rp.426.485.357.259 2. Total Cost (TC) : Rp.162.463.507.913
3. Sales Results : Rp.300.168.000.000
4. Net Profit : Rp.95.966.178.739
5. Profit Margin (PM) : 45,64%
6. Break Even Point (BEP) : 35,78%
7. Return on Investment (ROI) : 22,50%
8. Pay Out Time (POT) : 4,4 year
9. Return on Network (RON) : 37,50%
10. Internal Rate of Return (IRR) : 29,84%
Based on economic analysis, it can be concluded that the design of a glycerol factory from palm oil using a continuous fat splitting process is feasible to be established. | en_US |
