Peran Perpustakaan Keliling Dinas Perpustakaan dan Kearsipan Kabupaten Labuhanbatu dalam Meningkatkan Minat Baca Masyarakat Rantau Utara

Abstract

The objective of this research is to determine role of mobile libraries in increasing reading interest of the community of Rantau Utara Subdistrict. This is a qualitative descriptive research. The informants in this research are determined with a purposive sampling. There are 6 informants in this research who are taken from Rantau Utara Subdistrict.The data analysis technique used is data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing which aims to analyze relevant meaningful and important data. The data are collected by observation, interviews and documentation. Data testing uses source triangulation, technical triangulation, and time triangulation. The results show that role of the mobile library in increasing reading interest of the community of Rantau Utara Subdistrict can be studied through 3 aspects. First, its role as a facilitator; in carrying out its role, it has succeeded in providing information needed by the community and new knowledge through services, provision of collections, and promotional media asan effort to introduce mobile libraries to the community. Second, its role asa mediator; has developed and is running smoothly because it has helped daily needs as can be seen fi'om the types of collections that support the community, especially for children. Third, its role as a motivator; has carried out its duties well, it can be seen fi'om the users who realize the importance of reading through the mobile Library that has a positive impact and provides motivation to users.
