    Abstract
    Diabetes mellitus is one of the diseases that require large medical costs. The role of pharmacists in pharmaceutical care through counselling can improve knowledge, compliance, clinical outcomes, and quality of life which could prevent complications. This study was done to analyze the impact of pharmacist counselinh the decrease in number of drug-related problems (DRPs), cost of illness (COI), clinical outcomes, knowledge, and compliance pre- and post- intervention. The study used quasi-experimental method with retrospective-prospective one group pretest posttest study design, Purposive sampling was used as the sampling technique that was done from June – December 2022 with 88 patients. The study summarized the results pre- and post-intervention, respectively, as follows: DRPs 1.64 ± 1.24 and 0.24 ± 0.55; random blood glucose level (BGL) 230.50 ± 58,78 and 161.18 ± 28.10; HbA1c 8.07 ± 1.61 and 6.24 ± 0.98; body mass index (BMI) 26.52 ± 2.72 and 25.98 ± 2.78; mean knowledge score 12.19 ± 3.74 and 22.06 ± 1.80; mean compliance score 21.07 ± 2.66 and 24.43 ± 1.06; mean score of quality of life 37.35 ± 4.19 and 50.03 ± 4.75; mean of real COI Rp 1.477.414,01 ± Rp 529.285,36 and Rp 731.209,00 ± Rp 442.849,58. It can be concluded that pharmacists counselling can reduce DRPs and COI, also improve knowledge, compliance, quality of life, and clinical outcome of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) outpatients at Asahan Region General Hospital.
