Evaluasi Ketersediaan Koleksi Ilmu Peternakan di Perpustakaan Universitas Sumatera Utara untuk Referensi Mahasiswa Program Magister

Abstract

This study aims to identify the availability of animal science collections at the University of North Sumatra library for reference of master program students, including the types of documents most frequently cited and the names of journals most referenced. This study used a descriptive method, which was carried out using data collection techniques, namely literature study and documentation. The population of this study was all animal science theses in 2017, totaling 12 theses with a total list of 713 citations, which were sourced from one of the library websites, USU OPAC, and carried out through a sample collection technique, namely total sampling. Research instruments included a checklist and a journal name recording table to document thesis citations and assess their availability in the library. Based on the research that has been done, the results obtained are: 1) of 294 book citations, 27% are available; of 173 journal citations, 46% are available; of 28 thesis/dissertation citations, 4% are available; of 51 proceedings citations, 2% are available; of 167 other types of citations, 4% are available; for dictionary and encyclopedia document types, 0 citations are available. 2) the types of documents most cited were books, totaling 294 (41.23%); journals, amounting to 173 (24.27%); other documents, totaling 167 (23.42%); proceedings, 51 (7.15%); thesis/dissertations 28 (3.93%), and the types of dictionary and encyclopedia documents were 0 citations (0%). 3) The most dominant journal cited was Poultry Science, which was cited 16 times. Based on these percentages, the availability of collections cited by the animal science thesis in 2017 is small; 166 documents (23.3%) and 547 documents (76.7%) are unavailable. Based on this, library leaders are expected to consider procuring frequently used collections.
