    Abstract
This research discussed the relative clauses in Deli Melayunese and English as a syntactic typology study. There were three research problems: functions, relative clause structure, and the types of Deli Melayunese and English. The research used the theory of linguistic typology and syntactic typology approaches. The data were gathered by using listening and speaking methods and analyzed by using equivalent and agih methods. They were presented by using formal and informal methods. The samples were four respondents of Melayu Deli native speakers and three native English speakers. The results of the research showed that Deli Melayunese and English have four functions: 1) relative clause as a subject, 2) relative clause as an object, 3) relative clause as an adjective, and 4) relative clause as a complement. Relative clause structure in the two languages is organized from the main constituent which precedes relative clause. Deli Melayunese relative clause is established by connecting a core noun with relative clause through conjuction, which, where, and when. Meanwhile, English relative clause is established by connecting a core noun with relative clause, using relative pronouns: who, whom, which, whose, where, when, and that. Finally, pivot test was done to find out the types of Deli Melayunese and English. The result of the test showed that the two languages had the typology of accusative with S/A pivot pattern.
