    Abstract
The objective of the research is to describe 1) semantic categorization, and 2) the meaning of derivative verb of “angry” in the BTD (Batak Toba Dialect) through the Natural Semantik Metalanguage (NSM) theoretical framework. Oral and written data are gathered using listening and speaking methods with questionnaires which consist of two models: 1) lexicon of derivative verbs, “angry” and 2) derivative verb constructions, “angry” DCT (Discourse Completion Test). All of the data are analyzed using the padan method and agih method presented with formal and informal methods and tested using triangulation technique. The result of the research shows that the derivative verb, “angry” in the BTD (Batak Toba Dialect) is categorized with “ I don’t want this thing to happen”. After that, the result of the category is divided into three sub-categories: 1) sub-category of “ I want another thing to happen now”, 2) sub-category of “I want to say what I’m thinking about this”, and 3) sub-category of “I want to do something”. Then, the meaning of the derivative verb, “angry” is done through the process of prototype with test explication in the component, “X feels something because X is thinking about something”. The result of the analysis, as semantic specific characteristic distinction in the derivative verb “angry” in the BTD, is based on each member in the sub-category.
