Program Dinas Perpustakaan dan Arsip Kabupaten Karo dalam Mendukung Gerakan Literasi

Abstract

The objective of this final thesis is to find out the programs that support the literacy movement done by Karo Regency Library and Archives Office, including the activities carried out and the challenges experienced by Karo Regency Library and Archives Office in the implementation of programs in supporting the literacy movement. The data collection methods used were observation, interviews, documentation, and literature review. Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that the programs initiated by Karo Regency Library and Archives Office in supporting the literacy movement include “Kilap Pustaka”, which is short for Kegiatan Literasi Akhir Pekan Perpustakaan Terbuka di Taman Kota (the weekend literacy activity of the open library at the city park), as well as the storytelling and mobile library programs. The challenges faced by the Karo Regency Library and Archives Office in carrying out the programs include the lack of community participation and the limited number of human resources at the Karo Regency Library and Archives Office. The Kilap Pustaka program is implemented by Karo Regency Library and Archives Office in order to offer an alternative educational recreation for the community in the weekends. Meanwhile, the storytelling program aims to improve the children’s reading interest and support the literacy movement by librarians. Finally, the mobile library program aims to increase literacy, as well as distribute equal information services to hard-to-reach communities in remote villages.
