    Abstract
This study discusses the Sultanate of Kotapinang during the time of Sultan Makmur Perkasa Alamsyah in 1934-1946. Kotapinang Sultanate is one of the great sultanates in East Sumatra. The purpose of this study was to describe the early process of the establishment of the Kotapinang Sultanate and the Bahran Palace until the destruction of the Bahran Palace of the Kotapinang Sultanate during the Dutch colonial period. This research uses historical methods that be explained structurally according to the period of a historical event. The initial stage of this research is the collection of sources or heuristics through literature and field studies to the Department of Culture and Tourism of South Labuhan Batu Regency and areas related to the Sultanate and the Palace. After all sources are collected, the next is to filter the data and then to do the analysis process until the final stage in writing the thesis. The Sultanate of Kotapinang and Istana Bahran are evidence of the historical heritage that the Sultanate of Kotapinang once had experienced its glory in its time until what exists today is only the ruins of the remnants of Palace buildings that are not maintained. The Bahran Palace suffered a collapse along with the ongoing Social Revolution in 1946. Various factors contributed to the collapse of the Bahran Palace. Despite its historical value, the existence of the remaining palace buildings that exist until now has not been successfully preserved by the government and local residents.
