Studi Etnobotani Nipah ( Nypha Fruticans (Thunb.) Wurmb.) di Kawasan Hutan Mangrove Kecamatan Medan Belawan, Kota Medan Sumatera Utara
Abstract
Ethnobotany Study of Nipah Plants in the District Medan Belawan, North Sumatra aims to determine the utilization, value of economic, perceptions, and knowledge degradation of nipah palm in the community in Medan Belawan District. This research was conducted in July to December 2022. Locations cover 3 village namely Sicanang, Belawan Bahagia, and Belawan I. The method used in this research was open ended interviews and questionnaires. Open ended interviews were conducted openly and in-depth with key informants (craftsmen, farmers, owners) of the nipah plant to find out the utilization of the nipa plant, parts of the nipa used as handicrafts while questionnaires were distributed to the community purposively to find out social, economic conditions and knowledge about nipa plant. From the results of research on the utilization of nipah, namely as a drink, roofing crafts, and broomstick crafts. Traditionally the people of Medan Belawan District also use nipah leaf shoots that have been removed from the leaf bones as cigarette packs, and torch material derived from leaf stalks. Knowledge degradation of age group A occurred in age group C of 44,04%.
