The library is one of the organizational units dedicated to gathering, storing, and systematically managing bibliographic materials, serving as an informative resource and an enjoyable learningfacilityfor users. This research aims to examine the management of reference collections at Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU). The research methodology utilized in this study is qualitative, employing interview techniques for data collection. The research informants consist of two individuals: the head of the library's coordination service division and the staff members responsible for user service division. The findings indicate that the management of reference collections at UMSU library is conducted through several methods. Firstly, planning is executed by organizing the implementation of reference collection management, albeit not systematically. Secondly, organization involves staff members managing collections according to their respective fields. Thirdly, leadership directives involve periodic meetings and evaluations conducted by library management. Fourthly, coordination includes inventory checks performed through verification activities and recording library material data into the library collection system. Furthermore, cataloging involves categorizing reference collections based on library materials and ensuring that the publication years of reference collections are within the last three years. Lastly, control is exercised through the shelving process to monitor reference collection. In conclusion, the management of reference collections at UMSU aims to systematically organize and update reference collections to facilitate students in accessing required information.
