Upacara Ritual Patarias Debata Mulajadi Nabolon, Keturunan Ompung Mamontang Laut Ambarita di Sihaporas: Kajian Aspek Kepercayaan Lokal (Adat), Fungsi Sosial dan Fungsi Gondang

Abstract

This study reviews the role of the Patarias Debata Mulajadi Na Bolon ritual as a traditional ceremony inherited from the ancestors of the Toba Batak community in Sihaporas Village, Pematang Sidamanik District, Simalungun Regency, North Sumatra. The research method used is qualitative descriptive. The research findings highlight a deep understanding of local beliefs, providing comprehensive insight into the significance of rituals in the cultural and spiritual context of the Sihaporas Community. The main focus of research is the social function in the Patarias Debata Ritual, not only as a means of fulfilling spiritual needs, but also as a guardian of social integrity. Strengthening social relations through rituals is a strong foundation for maintaining the sustainability of cultural and environmental values in Sihaporas. The central role of gondang music as the "main means" in building connections and relationships between humans and the Creator is known as 'Debata Mulajadi Na Bolon' by the Toba Batak community. This ritual becomes a form of cultural expression that continues to develop, rooted in traditional values, traditional heritage, interaction with nature, and manifestation of honor. The local belief aspect of ritual is not merely a decorative element, but a marker of deep meaning in every aspect of the ceremony. Gondang, as a musical element in the Patarias Debata Ritual, not only acts as an accompaniment, but also as a medium of conveying values, emotions, and meanings in religious and cultural contexts. Gondang serves as a bridge connecting the real world with the spiritual world, providing depth and richness of ritual experiences for participants and society as a whole. Overall, the Patarias Debata Mulajadi Nabolon Ritual in Sihaporas is not only a traditional ceremony, but also a celebration of life, togetherness, and respect for ancestral heritage. This research confirms that this ritual remains relevant and has an important role in the maintenance and revitalization of the cultural and spiritual identity of the indigenous people of Siahaporas.
