dc.description.abstract | This study is about the design of the Flora Library Park in Medan City.
According to Nazzaruddin (1994) a garden is an open area with a certain area
planted with trees, shrubs, shrubs and grass which can be combined with creations
from other materials. The library is a building intended for the entire community
as a means of lifelong learning, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, race, religion
and socio-economic status (UU No. 43 of 2007). So, Taman Pustaka Flora is a
library that specifically displays flora by presenting various kinds of plants in North
Sumatra. The purpose of this design is to serve a recreational function, so that it
not only helps to arouse people's interest in reading, but also becomes a place for
the community to provide new insights about typical Sumatran plants, as well as
becoming a new tourism icon in the city of Medan.
In this design, the concept is that the authors design the coverage of public
space facilities in meeting the community's needs for recreation, the economy,
especially education which will support literacy activities in the community,
especially the city of Medan. With the existence of a library garden that will carry
out its function as a place of education and recreation, it is hoped that it can
increase public interest in reading and learning about the importance of preserving
plants. Taman Pustaka Flora is designed by setting the theme of Tropical
Architecture, which prioritizes natural ventilation, natural lighting, viod, sunlight
buffer, inner-court, and minimizes noise levels so this design will become more
unified and users will feel more comfortable when inside the garden building.
