This study aims to analyze the communication competence of medical
personnel in communicating with patients through the application of health
digital communication media "Telemedicine Rawat Covid-19 Sumut", analyze the
patient's experience in communicating with medical personnel who apply health
digital communication media "Telemedicine Rawat Covid-19 Sumut", and find
obstacles experienced by medical personnel and patients in the application of
health digital communication media "Telemedicine Rawat Covid-19 Sumut". The
theories and concepts of this research are interpersonal communication,
communication competence, communication effectiveness, health communication,
digital health communication media (telemedicine), and self-disclosure.
The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative with a
phenomenological paradigm. The subjects in this study are medical personnel and
patients who apply the online consultation service "Telemedicine Rawat Covid-19
Sumut", while the object of this study is a communication competence. The
selection of informants was obtained using a purposive techniques with several
criteria set by the researcher. Data saturation in the study obtained 8 (eight)
informants, consisting of 3 (three) medical personnel, 3 (three) patients, and 2
(two) triangulation people. Data collection techniques were conducted through
interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis used guidelines from
Miles, Huberman, and Saldana.
The results of this study show that the communication competence of
medical personnel who apply telemedicine platforms is considered good because
it has 3 pillars of communication competence, namely motivation, knowledge, and
skills in communicating with patients, and is at the level of Conscious
Competence communication competence. The patient experience in
communicating with medical personnel through the telemedicine platform is
generally positive. Patients highlighted the convenience, responsiveness, and ease
of access in using this platform. Barriers experienced by medical personnel and
patients on the implementation of telemedicine platforms include the lack of
technological skills and digital literacy among some patients. From the
perspective of medical personnel, the limitations of conducting direct physical
examinations may affect the accuracy of diagnoses.
