Perpustakaan Umum Kota Medan dengan Tema Arsitektur Kontekstual

Abstract

Library is one of public facilities that a city has. Aside from being a place for people to get information resources, libraries also have broader functions and roles accordance with people’s needs that keep developing. One of the supporting functions of the library is as an interactive and recreative gathering place for the society. In terms of the space needs, the library that has existed has not been able to accommodate the society activities beyond the need for data and literacy such as study area, meeting room, cafeteria, co-working space, open gallery, and other recreative communal spaces. The site for this design which is directly adjacent to the Deli River is a good potential for the design of Medan public library ecspecially for creating the spaces that can be integrated with the Deli River. The design of Medan public library carries the theme of contextual architecture which is a form of connection between building with the surrounding environment and culture. The design form and concept will be based on the environmental and cultural response of the local society.
