Perancangan Perpustakaan dan Science Center di Kota Medan dengan Pendekatan Arsitektur Tropis

Abstract

Libraries have a very important role in finding the data and information needed, unfortunately the potential of libraries in this age of technology is less attaractive to the public because of mobile phones dan the internet. A place is needed to accomodate and educate the public about reading by providing a library that functions as a learning area. However, public interest in visiting the library is very low. Therefore, facilities are needed to support library functions that are more recreational and educational in nature. In this design, science center facility are provided in the library which can make visitors feel and carry out direct demonstrations of hostorical knowledge through visual aids. The library and science center which is located on Jl. Brijen Katamso 45K, Kec. Medan Maimun provides a forum for facilities regarding technology science for knowledge facilities. The design approach used is a direct site survey, literature study, design study and a tropical architectural approach to the library and science center design. The tropical architectural theme applied to the building is intended to optimize the comfort of visitors in carrying out activities inside the building. It is hoped that this design will increase interest in reading and learning for visitors.
