    Abstract
The rivers at the foothill of Mount Sinabung are closely related to human activities, each river basin is influenced by various land use conditions for agricultural, domestic (residential) activities, public facilities and several other industrial activities, becoming one of the rivers that supports life. in Kab, Karo and there are volcanic flows. Macroinvertebrates are invertebrates that live on the bottom of sea or river water or mud. The aim of this research is to determine the diversity, uniformity and dominance index of macroinvertebrates, to determine the relationship between water quality parameters and the abundance and diversity of macroinvertebrates, and to determine the pollution status in the upper Wampu watershed, Karo Regency, North Sumatra Province. This research was carried out from July to August 2023 at the Rivers Foothill of Mount Sinabung, Karo Regency, North Sumatra. The results of this research show that the diversity index value (H') is included in the medium category with the highest value of 2.38, the uniformity (E) value is low with a value of 0.96, while the dominance index value (C) is high with the highest value of 1. Quality Relationship water obtained a correlation value of 0.6081 with a strong category where turbidity (Strong) is related to the abundance and diversity of macroinvertebrate species. The SingScore pollution status shows that six of the eleven river stations in the upper reaches of the Wampu watershed generally have very poor water quality. However, four rivers are in the good category and one river is in the very good category.
