Perancangan Pusat Budaya Batak Toba di Kota Medan dengan Pendekatan Arsitektur dan Association with Other Arts

Abstract

Culture is a way of life that develops and is owned by a group of people, then passed on to the next generation. Globalization provides a new culture that slowly dominates people's lives, so that the old culture or local culture that was previously attached to the community over time is occupied by a new culture, including the Batak Toba culture. In the midst of this situation, it is necessary to preserve the local culture which is the identity of the community. The design of the Batak Toba cultural center in Medan City aims to be a place for cultural preservation to maintain the cultural identity of the Batak Toba culture. The Batak Toba Cultural Center was designed with the theme Association With Other Arts, namely a design that translates Batak Toba culture into its design, starting with recognizing the concept and form of each element of Batak Toba Traditional art. The Batak Toba culture taken as the basic concept of the design is Dalihan Natolu. The symbol of Dalihan Natolu is in the form of a triangle, which is then used as an adaptation of the pattern for placing building masses. The Batak Toba Cultural Center is expected to be able to revive the love and desire of the people of Medan City, especially those with Batak ethnicity, to love and participate in preserving Batak Toba Culture and maintaining Batak Toba cultural identity.
