    Abstract
The area of this research is Medan, the capital city of North Sumatra province. Despite this city being in a low seismic hazard potential area, it still has the potential hazard of earthquake shaking both from the subduction zone of west Sumatra and the local faults of the Sumatra Fault. In this research, an analysis of seismic vulnerability was carried out in the city of Medan by considering the local soil conditions and their response to seismic waves. The purpose of this study is to provide an overview of the definition and methodology of the geotechnical-seismic hazard and the various methodologies to make seismic hazard maps. There are three geophysical methods used in this study, which are Multichannel Seismic Analysis Surface Wave (MASW), Spatial Autocorrelation (SPAC), and Horizontal- To-Vertical Spectral Ratios (HVSR). Environment parameters such as population density, land cover, land slope, and weather class are also considered. The output of the local soil profile measurement will produce a zoning map of environmental damage due to earthquakes which can be used to reduce the risk of damage due to earthquakes. In addition, the empirical formula for determining soil site class using the Vs30 parameter approach which considers the geomorphological parameters of Medan City is obtained. The result of this research found that the areas of Medan Perjuangan, Medan Area, Medan Tembung, and Medan Denai have a high potential for environmental damage due to earthquakes in Medan City.
