Pengaruh Ethyl Methane Sulfonate (EMS) terhadap Morfologi Umbi Kentang Merah (Solanum tuberosum L.) Generasi M1
Effect of Ethyl Methane Sulfonate (EMS) on Morphology of Red Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) Generation M1
Abstract
Red potatoes have advantages over other types of potatoes, namely a more savory taste and lower calorie and sugar content, so that red potatoes are popular and consumed by dieters and diabetics. The aim of the research was to identify the effect of EMS on the morphology of red potato tubers in M1 plants. This research was conducted in Kaban Village, Kabanjahe District, Karo Regency with analtitude of
± 1300 meters above sea level, used a one-factor Randomized Block Design (RBD) with five levels of concentration treatment (control, 20mM, 40mM, 60mM, and 80mM) repeated five times. The parameters observed were tuber weight, tuber length, tuber diameter, number of tubers, and protein content. The results showed that EMS had a significant effect on tuber weight and tuber length but had no significant effect on tuber diameter, tuber number and tuber protein content. The highest weight produced without EMS (control) was 52.3 g and the lowest weight produced with EMS (20mM) was 31.0 g. The longest tuber produced by without EMS (control) was 56.09 cm and the shortest tuber was produced by EMS 40mM.
