The turbine shaft is the main component of the steam turbine, the shaft has the
role of transmitting power or torque to the generator shaft or other components
connected to it. The turbine shaft is designed to be able to accept various loads
when the shaft operates at certain power fluctuations and cycles. The material
used for the turbine shaft is Stainless Steel AISI 420. The purpose of this study is
to analyze the design of the turbine shaft diameter with a capacity of 1000 kW
which meets the requirements for safety in receiving static loads. The modeling
and analysis of the stress distribution that occurs on the turbine shaft cross section
uses ANSYS. The concept of analysis with stainless steel material type AISI 420,
the results of the analysis of the value of the torsional moment that occurs is T =
545,440 kg.mm, the maximum shear stress is 36.38 MPa, the shaft deflection is
1.9 mm. The calculated turbine shaft diameter is 120 mm. Analysis of the
maximum stress distribution using ANSYS simulation that occurs on the shaft is
in the fillet area which is 1.5278 MPa.
