    Abstract
    Bio-oil is a dark colored liquid fuel that smells like smoke and is produced from biomass, such as corn cobs which contain cellulose which can be processed into alternative energy by pyrolysis. This pyrolysis is carried out at a heating time of 0.5-2 seconds, a temperature of 400-600oC, One of the processes in making Bio-oil is the fast pyrolysis process. Fast pyrolysis is a process that is capable of producing Bio-oil with side products in the form of gas, liquid and solids. Pre-Design The bio-oil factory using corn cob as raw material is planned to produce with a production capacity of 13,000 tons/year and operate for 330 days a year. The factory location is planned in Toba, North Sumatra, precisely in Parmaksian District, North Sumatra Province, Indonesia. The land area required to establish a factory is 25,625 m2.Hasil analisis aspek ekonomi yang diperoleh adalah sebagai berikut:  Total Capital Investment : Rp 392.888.638.899  Total Cost : Rp 307.805.564.412  Total Sales : Rp 438.403.995.575  Net Profit : Rp 86.445.862.214  Profit margin : 28,15%  Break even point : 30,11%  Return on investment : 22%  Pay out time : 4,54 year  Return on network : 36,7%  Internal rate of return : 46,55% Based on the results of the analysis of economic aspects, it can be concluded that "A factory for making bio-oil from rice straw with a capacity of 13,000 tonnes/year" is feasible to be established.
