    Abstract
Bamboo is a non-timber forest product that is widely found in tropical and sub-tropical regions of Asia. Bamboo is a non-timber forest product that is widely found in tropical and sub-tropical regions in Asia. Bamboo has a fast growth rate and has the potential to store carbon. Estimating biomass content is needed to obtain information on the magnitude of bamboo's role in mitigating global climate change. The aim of this study was to determine the biomass content stored in bamboo in Simalungun and Karo districts and to determine the species composition of bamboo in the highlands. and lowlands. This research was conducted in December 2022 and was carried out in Dolok Panribuan, Panei and Raya sub-districts, Simalungun district, Sumatera Utara Province and was also carried out in Tiga Bunanga sub-district, Karo district, Sumatera Utra Province. Using field data collection methods and calculating stand potential, biomass potential and carbon storage potential This study used allometric equations to calculate biomass potential and carbon storage potential. The study obtained the total biomass content of bamboo , namely a total biomass of 5.53 tons / ha with an average of one bamboo stick having a biomass of 0.92 kg / stem. The biomass that can be produced by bamboo in Karo Regency is 78.34 tons / ha. The total biomass content of bamboo in Simalungun Regency is 2.25 tons/ha. The study identified 4 types of bamboo found in highland areas and 6 types of bamboo in lowland areas.
