    Abstract
Mangrove tree (Rhizopora sp.) is one of the plants that has a large tannin content, especially in the bark. Tannins are obtained through an extraction method on mangrove wood using a water solvent. The use of tannins as an organic adhesive makes it an environmentally friendly adhesive. The purpose of this research is to to characterize the basic properties of tannins produced from the bark, branches, and mixture (bark with branches) of Bakau Minyak (R. apiculata), characterize the physical and mechanical properties of particleboard with mixed adhesives between tannins and PF and test the quality of gluing results of tannin and PF mixed adhesives on particleboard. The manufacture of particleboard is done by first preparing the raw materials, namely extracting tannins from bark, wood, and a mixture of bark and wood the Bakau Minyak. After that, proceed with the process of making particleboard by mixing meranti wood powder and tannin adhesive mixed with PF adhesive in a ratio of 50:50 which is then pressed with a felt temperature of 150 ℃. The test parameters of the physical and mechanical properties of particleboard include density, moisture content, water absorption, thickness swelling, modulus of elasticity, modulus of rupture, and internal bond. The results showed that particleboard density values ranged from 0.62-0.65 g/cm3; moisture content 11.29-11.88%; water absorption 108.49-129.69%; thickness development 17.58-24.25%; modulus of elasticity (MoE) 606.52-938.61 kgf/cm2, modulus of rupture (MoR) 2.32-4.26 kgf/cm2; and internal bond 2.96-3.99 kgf/cm2. Overall, the physical and mechanical properties of particleboard do not meet the JIS A 5908-2003 Type 8 standard except for the density and moisture content tests.
