    Abstract
The pre-designed factory for making sodium lignosulfonate surfactant from cocoa pod shells using the Sodium Bisulfite sulfonation process has a capacity of 3,000 tons/year and operates 330 days a year. The main process in this pre-design consists of four stages, namely the raw material preparation stage, the delignification stage, the sulfonation stage, and the NaOH recovery stage. At the delignification stage, the Soda/Alkali process is applied using an organic solvent in the form of NaOH as a cooking solution. Meanwhile, in the sulfonation stage, the operation is carried out at a temperature of 120°C for 1 hour. The amount of cocoa shells required to reach annual production capacity is 788,860 kg/hour. The factory for making sodium lignosulfonate surfactant from imi coconut fiber is planned to be established in Langkat Regency, North Sumatra Province, with a total area of 18,015 m2. The planned form of company organization is a Limited Liability Company (PT) with a total of 172 employees. The results of the economic analysis of this pre-design are as follows: 1. Capital Investment (CI) = Rp313.335.628.606 2. Total Cost (TC) = Rp165.202.685.519 3. Profit Margin (PM) = 35,241% 4. Break Even Point (BEP) = 37,451% 5. Return on Investment (ROI) = 20,694% 6. Return on Network (RON) = 34,490% 7. Pay Out Time (POT) = 4 tahun 10 bulan 8. Internal Rate of Return (IRR) = 20,595% Based on the economic analysis, it can be concluded that the pre-design of a sodium lignosulfonate surfactant factory from cocoa pod shells using the sodium bisulfite sulfonation process is feasible to be established.
