dc.description.abstractIllegal gold mining is widely found in Mandailing Natal Regency, gold mining waste produced in the form of heavy metals that can accumulate in rice fields through irrigation systems. The research aims to determine the mercury content in various rice fields and several varieties rice in Mandailing Natal Regency whose irrigation was sourced from the Batang Gadis river and to determine the mercury content in several varieties of rice grown by farmers in Mandailing Natal Regency. The method used in the research was descriptive quantitative method with laboratory experiment approach to find mercury (Hg) content in paddy field soil and rice buli. The results of this study showed that the highest mercury (Hg) content in the soil was found in Naga Juang District with an average of 11.57 ppm which had exceeded the threshold and was significantly different from all subdistricts and the lowest mercury (Hg) content was found in Kotanopan Subdistrict with an average of 0,85 ppm which is not significantly different from Panyabungan Subdistrict and the highest rice grains were found in Hutabargot District with an average of 0.075 ppm which is a concentration above the threshold and the lowest mercury (Hg) content is in Kotanopan Subdistrict with an average of 0.036 ppm, and there was no difference in mercury (Hg) content in rice varieties grown by farmers, namely Ciherang and Inpari 32 varieties.en_US
