    Abstract
    This thesis discusses how the impact of Indira Gandhi’s leadership in women’s political participation as Prime Minister of India from 1966-1984 . Where this Indira’s leadership in women’s participation in Indian politics with several policy initiatives is expected to increase women’s political participation in India. This study aims to explain what are the challenges faced by women to be involved in politics in India, as well as what policy initiatives Indira Gandhi gave in increasing women’s political participation, and also explain how Indira’s leadership impact in increasing women’s participation in Indian politics. The research method used is a qualitative research method using literature study techniques. Based on the results of the study, the challenges faced by women to be involved in politics in India are the still valid caste system and gender discrimination that places women in a lower position than men. So this is what made Indira take several initiatives to create policies that would make women equal without discrimination to be involved in politics in India. With several initiatives such as forming The Committee On The Status Of Women In India, providing a 30% quota reservation in the Panchayati Raj Institute, and also taking the initiative in forming the Ministry Of Women & Child Development. Then in this case it has an impact on women’s participation in India such as in the ministerial cabinet, the number of female contestants in the election, the number of female voters involved in the election, and women’s representation in the Indian parliament, both in the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha
