Spread of Downy Mildew Disease (Peronosclerospora Spp.) on Corn Plants (Zea Mays L.) in Several Districts of North Labuhan Batu Regency
Abstract
Downy mildew disease is an important disease in corn in Indonesia and other corn producing countries. Fungus Peronosclerospora spp is a cause of downy mildew disease that has a wide spread and can result in a decrease in yields of up to 50-80%. This study was aimed to study about the spread of downy mildew disease caused by Peronosclerospora spp in Plants in several districts of Labuhan Batu Utara Regency. This study was an exploratory study conducted by survey method that calculated the incidence and severity of disease in corn crops in Gunting Saga Village, Sidua-dua Village and Sukarame Baru Village. The results showed that the casual pathogen of the corn with downy mildew symptoms, was identified as Peronosclerospora spp fungus with different incidence and severity of disease. The highest disease incidence and disease severity was found in the village of Gunting Saga with a percentage 20.8 % and 37.12 % respectively. While the lowest data was found in Gunting Saga village with a percentage of disease incidence of 13.5 % and the percentage of disease severity of 27.86 %.
