    Abstract
Porang is a tuber crop that has good commercial potential, but has not been widely recognized by the public. Looking at its distribution, ultisol soil has good potential for agricultural activities. So an alternative is needed to increase the carrying capacity of ultisol soils for the initial growth of porang through the application of tea waste compost and phytosan. This study aims to obtain the concentration of Phytosan soaking and the dose of tea waste compost on the initial growth of porang bulbils in Ultisol soil. This research was conducted at the Center for Tuber-Umbian Studies, Faculty of Agriculture, USU, Medan City, North Sumatra Province with an altitude of ± 32 meters above sea level from October 2022 to January 2023. This study used a Randomized Group Design (RAK) consisting of 2 treatment factors with 3 replications. The first factor was the application of tea waste compost (0; 39.25; 78.5; 117.75 tons/ha). The second factor is phytosan concentration (0; 1125; 2250; 3375 ppm). The results showed that the application of tea waste compost had a significant effect on the age of sprouting, the age of plant leaves, plant height, plant stem diameter and the number of bulbils. Phytosan has a significant effect on the age of leaf exit, plant height, number of plant leaves and plant stem diameter. The interaction of tea waste compost 117.75 tons/ha and phytosan 1125 ppm significantly affected the age of leaf exit and plant stem diameter.
