    Abstract
Ronggurnihuta District is the sub-district that has the highest population of free-range chickens in Samosir Regency of 5389 heads, but farmers in Ronggurnihuta District have not made financial records or analyzed the calculations carried out so far. This study aims to find out the characteristics and business profile, the amount of income level and the feasibility of the business of free-range chicken farmers in Ronggurnihuta District. The research was conducted from May-July 2023 by applying the purposive sampling method to select three specific villages, as well as the quota sampling method by involving the entire population of respondents in the selected villages, namely 20 respondents in Ronggurnihuta Village (40%), 17 respondents in Salaon Tonga Tonga Village (34%) and 13 respondents in Salaon Toba Village (26%) which were divided into two business scales, namely Scale I (128-960 heads) and Scale II (1090-3052 heads). The results of the study show that farmers are generally over 50 years old, have a high school education, 1-10 years of breeding experience and the majority run individual businesses. They generally raise native chickens semi-intensively. The average income of free-range chicken farmers in Ronggurnihuta District on Scale I is IDR 11,318,668 per year and on Scale II is IDR 106,912,800 per year. The R/C value on Scale I is 1.9 and on Scale II is 3.1, while the B/C value on Scale I is 0.9 and on Scale II is 2.1. Thus, the free-range chicken farming business in Ronggurnihuta District is feasible to pursue.
