This research aims to determine the effect of providing organic materials and
liquid smoke from empty oil palm fruit bunches and interaction of organic
materials and liquid smoke from empty oil palm fruit bunches in increasing
growth and N, P and K nutrient uptake of soybean plants (Glycine max L) in
Ultisol soil. This research was carried out in the Greenhouse and Soil Biology
Laboratory Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatra in October 2023
– January 2024. This research uses a Randomized Block Design (RAK) with 2
treatment factors and 3 replications. The first factor is organic material with 4
levels, namely: (P0) without application of organic materials, (P1) 135 g biochar
tkks/plant, (P2) 135 g compost tkks/plant, (P3) 67.5 g biochar ttks/plant and 67.5
g of tkks compost/plant. The second factor is liquid smoke empty oil palm bunches
with 3 levels, namely: (A0) without smoke application liquid, (A1) 2% liquid
smoke tkks/plant, (A2) 4% liquid smoke tkks/plant. The parameters observed were
pH H2O, Plant Height (cm), Number of Leaves (Strand), Wet Weight Plant, Dry
Weight of Head, Wet Weight of Roots, Root Dry Weight, Nutrient N Content,
Nutrient P Content, Nutrient K Content, Nutrient N Uptake, Nutrient P uptake and
K nutrient uptake. The research results show that the provision of organic
material from empty oil palm fruit bunches has a real effect on plant height,
number of leaves, weight wet and dry weight of shoots, wet weight of roots and
dry weight of roots, P nutrient content, K and uptake of nutrients N, P and K.
Providing liquid smoke resulting from pyrolysis of bunches significant effect on
wet weight and dry weight of shoots, wet weight root, weight uptake of nutrients
N, P and K.. The interaction between the two has a significant effect on wet
weight and dry weight of roots.
