Response of Growth and Production of Two Varieties of Lettuce (Lactuca Sativa L.) Grown by Verticulture to the Application of Jakaba Liquid Organic Fertilizer Concentration
Abstract
Lettuce is a vegetable that has high economic value. The market demand for lettuce is quite high, while land is decreasing due to the conversion of agricultural land into industrial buildings, especially in urban areas, so the verticulture system is the right solution for urban farming. The use of superior varieties and Jakaba liquid organic fertilizer is a good choice to increase crop production. This research aims to determine the response of growth and production of two varieties of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) grown vertically to the application of Jakaba liquid organic fertilizer concentration. This research was carried out on the land of the Medan Krio Agricultural Extension Agency office, Sunggal District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra at an altitude of ± 30 meters above sea level from December 2023 to January 2024. This research used a factorial Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with 2 Factors: The first factor is Jakaba Liquid Organic Fertilizer concentration with 3 levels, namely: 0, 30%, and 60%. The second factor were lettuce varieties: Red Rapid and New Grand Rapid. The research was finding indicate that the concentration of Jakaba liquid organic fertilizer significantly affect the growth and production of lettuce plants in terms of plant height at 3-5 weeks after planting (WAP), the number of leaf at 3-5 WAP, leaf area, fresh weight of the canopy, and dry weight of the canopy. Furthermore, the application of two lettuce varieties significantly influences the number of leaf at 4-5 WAP. However, there is no significant interaction observed between the application of Jakaba concentration on the two lettuce varieties. The best growth and yield are achieved with the application of 30% concentration of Jakaba liquid organic fertilizer and the Red Rapid variety.
