    Abstract
This research is entitled Housework Patterns in Generation Y and Generation Z Husband and Wife Couples in Medan Johor District. The aim of the research is to see whether there is a change in gender roles in household work patterns and what consequences occur from the division of household work carried out by husband and wife couples from generation Y and generation Z. This research uses qualitative research methods with data collection techniques, namely interviews. in-depth, non-participant observation, and documentation. The results of the research are changes in gender roles that influence and also mutual agreement on household work patterns. The changes experienced are the existence of an agreement or agreement before marriage and the participation and responsibility of a husband in carrying out household work. The impact of changes in the distribution of work in the household on individuals is that they feel stressed. However, there is no impact whatsoever from the division of household work on family unity and relationships with the extended family. Gender social construction theory and modernization theory are used to analyze the results of this research. This research hopes for further discussion from future researchers regarding what efforts can be made to minimize feelings of stress for husband and wife couples in carrying out household work as well as public work.
