Shallots are one of the leading horticultural commodities of the spice group with high economic value. Efforts to increase shallot yields are the right planting media, namely by using soil improvers such as biochar that can improve soil physical properties and adding NPK 16:16:16 fertilizer. This study aims to determine the effect of corn cob biochar and NPK fertilizer on the growth and production of shallot plants. This research was conducted at Jl. Harmonika Baru, Padang Bulan II, Medan Selayang District, Medan with an altitude of ± 25 meters above sea level from October 2023 to January 2024. This research used Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with 2 factors. Factor I is corn cob biochar with doses of no biochar, 10, 20 and 30 tons/ha. Factor II is NPK fertilizer with doses of 300, 400 and 500 kg/ha. The results showed that the provision of corn cob biochar 20 tons/ha was able to produce the length of plants aged 2-8 weeks after planting, fresh weight of bulbs, dry weight of bulbs, crown fresh weight and fresh weight of shallot roots and corn cob biochar 30 tons/ha was able to produce bulb diameter. The application of 300 kg/ha NPK fertilizer is able to produce plant length at 2-8 weeks of planting, number of leaves 4-8 weeks of planting, fresh weight of bulbs, dry weight of bulbs, crown fresh weight and root fresh weight. The interaction between the application of corn cob biochar and NPK fertilizer had no significant effect on plant growth.
