Pengaruh Penambahan Asam Borat dan Boraks sebagai Bahan Penghambat Api pada Pembuatan Papan Komposit Kayu Plastik dari Polipropilena-Serbuk Pelepah Pinang
The Effect of Adding Boric Acid and Borax as Flame Retardants on The Manufacture of Wood Plastic Composite from Polypropylene-Areca Nut Frond Powder
Abstract
This study examines the effect of adding boric acid and borax as flame
retardants on the manufacture of wood plastic composite from polypropylene (PP)-
areca nut frond powder (SPP). The research was carried out in four stages. Stage 1,
the alkalization process. Stage 2, the manufacture of PP-G-MA, FT-IR testing is
carried out. Stage 3, making wood plastic composite from polypropylene-areca nut
frond powder with a percentage ratio of SPP:PP:PP-g-MA (30:64:6, 35:59:6,
40:54:6)%. molding is carried out using a hot press at 170°C. Physical and
mechanical properties testing was carried out which included density, moisture
content, thickness development, and bending tests.the optimum composition obtained
at SPP: PP: PP-g-MA is (30: 64: 6) % with a density value of 0.71 g / cm3
, moisture
content 1.5%, thickness development 2.36%, bending 22.172 MPa and modulus of
elasticity 84.104 MPa. Stage 4, making optimal wood plastic composite added Boric
Acid and Borax flame retardants, molding is done using a hot press at a temperature
of 170 ° C. flammability testing with UL-94. The burning rate of wood pastic
composite before the addition of flame retardant was 30.9 ± 3.9 mm / min and after
addition it dropped to 22.7 ± 0.3 mm / min. While the burn time value before the
addition of flame retardant material is 134 ± 2.6 seconds and after the addition of
flame retardant material to 198.6 ± 5.4 seconds. So there is a significant increase in
fire resistance of wood plastic composite
