    Abstract
The role of switching in a Communication System is very important. The ability of switching to connect signals determines the quality of service of a Communication System. Currently, the demand for high switching system reliability is unavoidable. This is due to the large number of users served and the available information service applications. Multistage Interconnection Network (MIN) has long since replaced matrix switching. This is because it has far fewer cross points than matrix switching. Expensive matrix switching has been abandoned, except for small switching systems. Some of the well-known MINs are the MIN topologies: Delta, Omega, Banyan, Cube, Clos, Benes and many others. Although MINs are cheaper, their internal blocking nature is a problem in switching design, which greatly affects the reliability of the designed switching network. This paper discusses the reliability of a 8 x 8 Benes topology MIN that connected in parallel so the switch size become 16 x 16. The reliability studied is terminal reliability and broadcast reliability using the block diagram method. The block diagram method describes the switching system using blocks that represent the components and relationships between switching blocks. Based on these blocks, equations are derived to calculate the reliability parameters. From the results of the analysis conducted, it is found that in parallel Benes with a size of 16 x 16, if the reliability of the switching element is 0.99, the terminal reliability reaches 0.999 and the broadcast reliability reaches 0.991. While in the Benes network with a size of 8 x 8, if the switching reliability is 0.99, the terminal reliability only reaches 0.979 and the broadcast reliability only reaches 0.950. From these results it appears that the terminal reliability and broadcast reliability of Benes topology switching arranged in parallel are better than basic Benes switching.
