Designing the Creative Hub of Asahan Regency with Metaphorical Architecture Approach
Abstract
The creative industry in Indonesia has experienced significant growth.
However, challenges persist, such as low human resource quality and inadequate
facility accessibility. The low quality of human resources results in societal
difficulty in obtaining employment and contributes to increasing unemployment
rates. One proposed solution is to provide a creative hub facility as a center for
collaboration, innovation, and the development of creative industry businesses.
The objective of this research is to design a creative hub facility that accommodates
users' needs in enhancing and developing skills and creativity in Kabupaten Asahan
by applying the metaphorical architecture theme. The research methodology
employed is a mixed-method approach (qualitative-quantitative). This method is
utilized to explore ideas by gathering data comprising literature reviews, relevant
case studies, and quantitative data collection through questionnaires. Subsequently,
qualitative and quantitative analyses are conducted to provide guidelines necessary
for project design. The findings of the study demonstrate the application of the
metaphorical architecture theme in the creative hub, inspired by the coconut
metaphor as the primary commodity of Kabupaten Asahan. The application of this
theme encompasses a combination of metaphors (abstract-concrete) involving the
design of building masses, material usage, color, interior details, and site plans that
depict coconut elements. Consequently, the building serves as a symbol of creativity
and natural growth, creating an attractive environment that reflects the local
culture.
