dc.description.abstract | USUpress as a printing and publishing unit at the University of North Sumatra, uses a cutting machine with a semi-automatic control system in carrying out the paper cutting process. The paper limiter or paper cut size control can be adjusted using a press lever to move the paper limiter forward or backward. In this case the researcher took the problem formulation as follows. How to design a digital control system on a paper cutting machine to move the paper guide according to the size entered by the operator per 1 input and 1 set of sizes containing 3 paper cutting sizes. The aim of this research is to realize a digital control system for paper borders on cutting machines at USUpress with better control compared to semi-automatic control systems and add references in the field of control systems for paper cutting machines. The benefit that can be provided from this research is increasing the efficiency of the time and energy used by operators in cutting stacks of paper. The method used in this research is engineering design process (EDP). The results obtained from this research trial were that all system components worked well to control the paper limiter, but size errors still occurred. This is due to the old age of the paper cutting machine and slippage that occurs in the stepper motor pulley. The conclusion that can be drawn from this research is that the system built can move the inner paper limiter for 1 input and for 1 set of sizes containing 3 paper cut sizes. Then, the size error that occurs can be compensated for using the Arduino program and has a big effect on reducing the size error. | en_US |
