dc.description.abstract | Machinability variables that are important for optimization in turning are surface roughness and flank wear. In optimization, the problem that is often encountered is the difficulty of attaining optimal conditions in a machining process in obtaining metal products with optimal cutting conditions. In this research, the optimization methods used are Response Surface Methodology, Taguchi, and Grey-Taguchi. These three methods were implemented to optimize machinability variables on surface roughness and flank wear in hard turning operations of AISI 4140 steel utilized ceramic insert. This research involved collecting experimental data from previous research (Ranjan et al 2015). The process parameters utilized are cutting speed, feed, and depth of cut. The data acquired in this research produces optimum values with different modeling from each method. The results of this research represent that the Taguchi method is able to provide high R-squared values for surface roughness and edge wear. Researchers recommend this method to obtain optimal cutting conditions in the turning process. | en_US |
