    Abstract
    The preliminary plant design of Isopropyl Palmitate from Palmitic Acid and Isopropyl Alcohol with production capacity of 32.000 tons/year and operates for 330 days a year. The main process in the predesign of this plant consists of three stages, namely the preparation stage of raw materials, the synthesis stage, and the purification stage. The reaction is in the form of an esterification reaction that takes place in 4 continuous stirred tank reactors arranged in series with temperature conditions of 130°C and pressure of 5.5 atm with a residence time of 30 minutes in each reactor. Processes in isopropyl palmitate production include: 1. Preparation of Raw Materials 2. Synthesis Stage (Reaction) 3. Purification Stage The special assignment completed was the detailed engineering design of the continuous stirred tank reactor as a place for isopropyl palmitate synthesis by esterfication reaction of palmitic acid and isopropyl alcohol. The continuous stirred tank reactor that has been designed has the following specifications: 1. Shape : Vertical reactor with base and torispherical head. 2. Reactor diameter : 1,98 m 3. Reactor height : 2,36 m 4. Reactor volume : 6,06 m3 5. Thick Shell : 5/16 in 6. Thick Head : 3/16 in 7. Reaction Time : 30 minutes 8. Number of reactors : 4 units 9. Impeller Type : 6-pitch blade turbine 10. Types of heaters : Conventional Jacket The planned factory location is at the factory site in the Sei Mangkei Special Economic Zone (KEK Sei Mangkei) area located in Simalungun Regency, North Sumatra with a total area of 12.149 m2. The required workforce is 206 people with the form of a business entity in the form of a Perseroan Terbatas (PT). The results of the economic evaluation at the IPP Manufacturing Plant from Palmitic Acid and Isopropyl Alcohol in 2028 can be seen as follows: • Total Capital Investment : IDR 726,505,877,344 • Total Cost Production : IDR 1,061,469,998,833 • Total Sales : IDR 1,309,280,884,243 • Net Profit : IDR 153,329,221,740 • Profit Margin (PM) : 14,63% • Break Even Point (BEP) : 38,70% • Return on Investment (ROI) : 21,11% • Pay Out Time (POT) : 4 years 9 months • Return on Network (RON) : 35,18% • Internal Rate of Return (IRR) : 22,05% From the results of the analysis of economic aspects, it can be concluded that the isopropyl palmitate plant from palmitic acid and isopropyl alcohol is feasible to be established.
