The Influence of Entrepreneurial Skills and Entrepreneurial Motivation on Business Success (Study of MSME in Medan City)
Abstract
MSME entrepreneurship is one aspect of local economic development as
well as contributing to the employment network in the city of Medan. The
existence of MSMEs provides the ability to contribute to regional economic
development and reduce unemployment. However, in the process of running a
business there are obstacles for entrepreneurs, namely the lack of entrepreneurial
skills and lack of motivation in entrepreneurship which can influence the success
of MSME.
This research aims to analyze the influence of entrepreneurial skills and
entrepreneurial motivation on the success of MSME businesses in the city of
Medan. The influence of entrepreneurial skills and entrepreneurial motivation will
be analyzed partially and simultaneously on business success
This form of research uses quantitative research with an associative
approach. The population in this study was all MSMEs in the city of Medan,
totaling 38,343 MSMEs, with a sample of 100 respondents, with a sampling
technique using purposive sampling. Primary data was obtained through
distributing questionnaires directly and secondary data was obtained through
literature study. The analysis methods used are validity tests, reliability tests,
classical assumption tests, multiple linear regression, partial tests, simultaneous
tests and determination tests and are processed using SPSS software.
The research results show that entrepreneurial skills and entrepreneurial
motivation have a significant effect, both partially and simultaneously, on
business success among MSMEs in the city of Medan. The coefficient of
determination test shows that there is a close relationship between entrepreneurial
skills and entrepreneurial motivation with an R value of 0.705. Based on the
adjusted R Squere value, it is known that the entrepreneurial skills and
entrepreneurial motivation variables contribute 49.7% to business success, while
the remaining 50.3% is influenced by other factors outside this research model.
